What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy can be described as using a very gentle, hands-on therapeutic approach to enhance natural bodily function. It is based on the rhythm of the semi-closed hydraulic system, which produces and circulates cerebrospinal fluid to bathe the brain and spinal cord. By tuning in to the CranioSacral rhythm, the Therapist is able to alleviate restrictions within the body and restore balance.
How is CranioSacral Therapy performed?
CranioSacral Therapy is performed on a person fully clothed. Using different hand positions, the Therapist assists the natural, corrective tendency of the tissues. Too much force and the tissues in the body tighten in an attempt to preserve the status quo. By lightening up the touch (generally using no more than the weight of a nickel), the therapist allows the client’s tissues to relax in order to obtain the therapeutic release. This is what makes CranioSacral Therapy so safe.
What are the benefits of CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy improves the functioning of the central nervous system, reduces general stress and anxiety, assists in postural balancing, promotes fluid exchange, and strengthens resistance to disease. No matter how you feel, CST is one of the best health enhancement activities you can do.
How is CranioSacral Therapy different from other forms of hands-on treatments?
A major difference is that the Therapist uses a much lighter touch. By monitoring the fluid that is flowing around your central nervous system, the therapist can manipulate much more deeply into the membrane and fluid systems of the body. Delicate manual techniques are then used to release any restrictions the Therapist finds.
How does CranioSacral Therapy work with orthodontia (braces)?
CranioSacral Therapy works very well. It is recommended that all children receive CranioSacral Therapy before receiving orthodontic correction. Very often, it will shorten the course of orthodontia. If you already have braces, rebalancing the cranial bones may alleviate pain and improve general well being.
I didn’t feel much after my treatment, why not?
In CranioSacral Therapy, we are barely moving the body, and what we look for is extremely subtle. We are working with a fluid system. By encouraging and assisting the tissues to release, self-correction will be only what is needed and appropriate at the time.
Why would I want my newborn or infant treated with CST?
Early treatment can correct problems in the CranioSacral system immediately. This may prevent the development of allergies, colic, dyslexia, hyperactivity, respiratory problems, and seizure disorders. It is also helpful in treating torticollis and chronic ear infections.
What other kinds of childhood concern can CranioSacral Therapy help with?
CranioSacral Therapy is one of the more powerful health enhancement treatments available today. It can be very effective for children who present with learning disabilities, dyslexia and hyperactivity. When structural problems of the skull are released, the child’s general health is improved.
How can CranioSacral Therapy help the elderly?
CST can help the elderly to become more agile and mobile. It can improve intellect and memory, and increase energy. Overall health is enhanced, and motor coordination and range of motion may be improved. All this is achieved by using a very gentle, noninvasive, hands-on approach to enhance body function.
